The VoiceBarre® concept came to me one day when I realized that there is much confusion out there about proper vocal technique and its application in the many different styles of singing that exist in the world today.  "Drop your jaw" "Sing from your larynx" "Sing from your diaphram" "Expand your ribcage" "Keep your tongue down" "Keep your soft palate lifted" "Give it more support"  Have you heard any or all of these?  The language that voice teachers use seems to always be full of such confusing and sometimes dangerous cliches.  Yet, every day, singers, who never question the vast "wisdom" of their teachers, will push, manipulate and strain their voices until one day they realize that their voice is "burned out."  The real shame is that it NEVER seems to be the fault of the teacher but rather the student who "simply didn't understand" what the teacher was trying to say.  If the technique that your being taught cannot be applied to every type of singing style then there is probably something wrong with the technique, not you.

 

     What many teachers fail to understand, is that you don't need to worry about 100 different things every time you open your mouth to sing.  And you don't need to study for years and years before you see some positive results.  My first-time students are always amazed at how quickly their voices can transform in just one hour.  I often hear "I have learned more in one hour with you than in the past (enter number here) of years with other teachers!"

 

     It doesn't matter what type of music you sing: musical theatre, pop, rock or opera.  You should have a vocal technique that allows the voice to be free so that you can concentrate on the performance and telling your story through song. 

 

      The ideal situation would be to have one on one time with a knowledgeable voice teacher who can evaluate your voice, guide your progress as you build your vocal confidence and give you voice building exercises that have been proven in the voice studio to yield results. Finding that knowledgeable voice teacher isn't always easy or even available in your city and THAT is where VoiceBarre® comes in!  Whether online or in-person, VoiceBarre® is a highly effective system of healthy voice building!
